John and Donald had a successful night at the recent Master Photographers Scotland awards ceremony. With two outright wins in the Cherub category in addition to getting 2 awards of excellence and 3 certificates of merit giving them a total haul of 7 awards.
Over the last decade the studio has won the individual Cherub award an incredible 6 times and the Cherub portfolio award 5 times.
Two of the awards that John won this year were in the complete wedding category. A particularly difficult category as the photographer who wins has to enter a portfolio of images shot at an individual wedding. To be successful in this category you have to produce a consistently high standard of pictures from throughout the wedding day.

Adding a new feature to our blog Brides and there new babies as sure as day follows night delightfully so does Babies follow Weddings.
Its a great honor when our brides bring in there new arrivals, Always a time of great excitment and we do love creating beautiful portraits of them.
I am sure I get to retire when I do a wedding for a couple and I did one of there parents wedding photography can be long now.

Dionne and Matt had a fantastic wedding with a party atmosphere from start to finish. I am sure you will agree that our reportage style pictures taken at Cameron House capture the fun of the day.

This Sneaky Peak is from the wedding that took place in Ayrshire at Alloway Parish Church and The Brig O’Doon Hotel. The bride and groom were Jennifer Currie and Jonathan Winship. As you can see the weather didn’t dampen their spirits and a wonderful time was had by all.

The first sneaky peak is from the wedding of Nicola Currie to Brian McCardle. Their wedding took place at Kelvinside Hillhead Parish with a reception at Oran Mor. They also visited Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens for photographs.
What a busy weekend. With 2 weddings on Friday, and then the wedding show on Saturday and Sunday. The weather did its best to rain at all the wrong moments on Friday (My suit is still drying out!) but it didn’t stop us from getting some wonderful pictures. Sneaky Peaks to follow.
It was fantastic to have a chance to talk to so many future brides at the wedding show over the weekend. A number of brides came specifically to talk to us having been recommended by past brides, such as Karen McGrouther and Michael O’Connor. See the pictures above from their wedding that took place last month. They were married at St Ninian’s in Knightswood and had pictures taken in Victoria Parks, Fossil Grove before having their reception at The Glasgow Hilton.
We always like to attend the wedding show because it gives us an opportunity to meet lots of couples, but with the stand being busy we feel we don’t have a chance to really get to know people by having a proper chat about their individual plans for the big day ahead, or to discuss what is important to everybody.
We hope that if you stopped for a chat you have had a chance to look our DVD. The DVD is only a brief look at what we can do for you. If your own wedding venue is not on the DVD we will be happy to let you see some images. We may even have a display album in our studio that you can look at.

SNEAKY PEAKS
This is our first time posting a Sneaky Peak, a feature of our blog we intend to make use of on a regular basis in the future so that everybody can keep up with our news. Our intention is to pick a favourite picture or two from a wedding or portrait session that we have photographed recently.
SNEAKY PEAK from the wedding of Dionne Blin and Matt Smith 11th September 2011
It was a privilege to be involved in such a special family occasion and create a record of the emotion and love of the day. A wonderful wedding with never a dull moment, even the gales from Hurricane Irene didn’t stop everybody from having a fantastic time.
I have found it really difficult to select just a couple of images from Dionne and Matt’s wedding at Cameron House, Loch Lomond. We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them.

Hearts and Balls
This years Hearts and Balls Charity event is being held in Glasgow’s Old Fruit Market in the Merchant City on Friday 10th June. It is being organised by Jim Taylor who is running the event to raise money for four young Glasgow men who were seriously injured playing rugby.

The Master Photographers Association is the only photography organisation in the UK whose membership consists of full time professional photographers.
To become a member of the organisation photographers must submit a portfolio of their work to be assessed by the elite in the photographic profession.
Applicants must meet other criteria such as provide health and safety plans, prove that they are fully insured and agree to abide by a strict code of conduct. This provides valuable peace of mind for anybody commissioning an MPA photographer, which we believe is especially and extremely important for any discerning Bride or Groom.
Why am I telling you this? Well, we are delighted to announce that John has been invited to join the very few photographers in the country to be an assessor.
John has already been acting as a mentor for provisional members when they are in the process of creating their portfolios and have proceeded to be become full members of the MPA.

We have recently returned from a successful trip to the annual awards ceremony for Scotland’s professional photographers. The event for the Master Photographers Association Scotland was held at the prestigious Dunblane Hydro and is only open to qualified, full time professional photographers, so you are competing with the best in the industry.
There was a record number of entries this year with almost 1000 images submitted by photographers from up and down the country.
So, how did we get on? Well, we are delighted to announce that we won 6 awards, including an Award of Excellence for a beautiful wedding picture taken on a windswept Saligo beach on the island of Islay last year.
We also won awards for our portrait work including overall winner and 2nd place in the Cherubs Folio category. This is the 4th time we have won this particular award, confirming our ability to produce a consistently high standard of baby portraits over a series of sessions.
All of the pictures are entered anonymously and with the exception of one category the awards are judged by a panel of professional photographers, from out with Scotland.
The Consumer Award is not judged by the professionals but is judged by a member of the public instead. They choose what they regard is the best picture out of all of the 980 entries. As this is an overall award and is judged on appeal it has always been an award we have wanted to win. Yes, and you guessed it we did ! !
We also won awards in the ‘Individual Cherub’ and in the ’Open‘ categories.

We’re delighted to be able to help Kevin McGinn with a Charity evening in aid of The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. It will be held in Oran Mor (a great venue !) on Saturday 12th March . We are showing some of our wonderful images on the night and donating a fabulous wall portrait for the auction. We wish Kevin continued good health and Paula Geddes good luck for a fun and successful evening for a very deserving charity.

Part of our busy weekend was having a display at the Scotland’s biggest wedding Fayre on Saturday and Sunday. Many thanks to everybody who stopped for a chat,

A busy weekend with Katie & Craig’s Wedding at the Balmoral Hotel.
It was a fantastic day, even if the weather wasn’t great. Still working on the images but here’s a sneak preview!
